3 Signs It’s Time to Clean Your Dryer Vent
One of the hardest working appliances in your Jacksonville, Florida, home is the dryer, especially if you have a large household. While the dryer may get a lot of use, it rarely gets much attention otherwise. Because of this, one of the common things many homeowners overlook is having their dryer vents cleaned. If you’re experiencing any of the following issues, it may be time to schedule a professional dryer vent cleaning:
It Takes Forever for Your Clothes to Dry
A clogged vent can mean it takes almost twice as long or longer to dry an average load of laundry. Your dryer works by pushing the moisture out of your clothing and venting the moist air out through the vent. When the dryer doesn’t vent the air properly, your clothes won’t dry quickly. As a result, it’ll cause more wear and tear on the machine.
The Outside of Your Dryer Gets Hot
When the dryer vent clogs, it’ll malfunction and won’t exhaust as it should, resulting in an abnormally hot exterior or interior. You may also notice that the humidity level in the room is higher than in other rooms, fogging mirrors and windows. Continuing to run your dryer when this occurs can cause the heating element to wear out quicker.
You Detect a Burning Smell
Burning odors coming from your dryer can mean danger. A clogged vent contains a buildup of lint, which is extremely flammable. While most homeowners know this will fill the lint trap, they may not know it can also fill the exhaust tube. When the vent is blocked, the dryer can overheat and emit a burning smell. This is a major fire hazard. So if you detect a burning smell, disconnect your machine immediately and call for service.
